Bhavani Amman Temple

On my way to Avalanche Lake, I found a temple at the spot where Bhavani river originates. The temple was built during a time when humans used to be grateful … for everything that nature gave them to sustain their lives. And they expressed their gratitude through worship … just like they would worship their mother … for nurturing them, for loving them, and for enriching their lives.

And while I stood there and admired the beauty around me, I suddenly remembered a stotram from Rig Veda.

karpūragauraṁ karuṇāvatāraṁ
sansārsāram bhujagendrahāram |
sadāvasantaṁ hṛdayāravinde
bhavaṁ bhavānīsahitaṁ namāmi ||

The one who is as pure as camphor and is the symbol of compassion
The one who is the essence of the world and wears the serpent king as his garland.
The one who resides in the lotus of my heart
To the Lord, accompanied by the Goddess Bhavani, I bow.
